Sewer cleaning and line preparation
We remove grease, scale, roots and debris so your sewer flows again and the pipe is ready for an accurate camera review or liner installation.

Hydro jetting versus mechanical cleaning
High-pressure water cuts through grease blankets, soft scale and many root masses when pipe condition allows. Mechanical cutters and descaling tools address harder deposits or root webs that water alone cannot clear.
We choose technique based on material, diameter and what the camera or your symptoms already suggest about the obstruction.

Deposits we commonly see in Greater Boston
Cast iron and older drain lines often carry grease, soap residue and corrosion scale. Clay and concrete joints attract roots. Each deposit type responds differently to jetting and mechanical tools.
Cleaning restores diameter for flow and gives the camera a clear view of cracks, offsets and hubs that maintenance alone cannot fix.
One-time clog versus a structural problem
A single backup after misuse of the kitchen line may clear with cleaning. Backups that return in the same pipe section often mean a joint failure, crack or root entry point that needs repair, not only another jetting visit.
We use camera findings after cleaning to separate ongoing maintenance from lining or spot excavation.

Preparation before lining, coating or reinspection
CIPP liners and epoxy coatings need a pipe free of obstructions and protrusions so the tube can invert and cure or the coating can be applied to a prepared wall. Cleaning is a standard step before those installations.
On South Boston and Charlestown lining projects, jetting and descaling were part of the scope before inversion equipment tied in.
Tenants, follow-up and maintenance versus repair
Commercial and multi-unit buildings need clear timing around water use and access to cleanouts. We coordinate with you when several fixtures share one building drain.
Periodic cleaning can manage grease in some lines. When the same defect location keeps failing, we explain whether structural renewal is the better long-term choice.
Cleaning FAQ
Is this the same as opening a small kitchen clog?
Building sewers are larger and longer than a single fixture trap. Equipment and access are sized for the main line serving the property.
Will jetting damage an old pipe?
Pressure and nozzle choice are matched to pipe material and condition. If the line is fragile, we adjust technique or discuss alternatives after viewing the pipe.
Can cleaning and camera happen on one visit?
Often yes when access is clear. Heavy buildup may need more time or a return visit before the full run can be filmed.
Do you clean before every lining job?
Yes. Liner sizing and installation assume obstructions are removed so measurements and inversion reflect the true pipe.
How do I know if I need cleaning again next year?
If roots or grease return but the pipe wall is still sound, maintenance cleaning may be enough. If the camera shows new cracks or offsets at the same spot, ask about lining.
