Back Bay trenchless sewer repair
We lined a Back Bay cast iron lateral that kept backing up beneath a finished floor, after mapping it with our camera and planning one access opening for our equipment. We inspect, clean, line and coat your Back Bay sewer the same way.

We connected our inversion drum through this tiled floor opening on our Back Bay job.
Our Back Bay job
We mapped a Back Bay lateral before we opened anything.
The owner’s cast iron lateral ran under a finished floor, and its recurring backups came from a deteriorated pipe wall and connections. Excavating would have meant opening that floor along the whole route, so we recorded the lateral and its tie-ins first and chose the liner length and cure approach from that recording, as we would for your sewer.
We then opened one access point, installed and cured a cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liner from inside, reinstated the connections and brush coated the branches that needed corrosion protection. If your Back Bay sewer runs under finished space, we plan your access opening the same way before we install.
What our camera found. A deteriorated cast iron lateral and connections under a finished floor.
What we did. One planned opening, a CIPP liner cured from inside and reinstated connections.
What else. Epoxy brush coating on the branches that needed corrosion protection.
Our photographs show the floor openings and equipment from this Back Bay job.
Slide across these cast iron pipes to see them before and after lining.
Our Back Bay job was a cast iron lateral. These pairs show corrosion like the wall our camera recorded, and the liner that replaces it.

We descale your cast iron before your liner goes in.Scale left in place stops your liner from seating, so we jet your lateral back to its wall first.
We line these problems in Back Bay cast iron.
Lining needs your pipe to still hold its shape. Our recording shows whether it does and where your connections are.
Camera inspection
Scale is narrowing your cast iron lateral.
We descale your lateral to its wall, then line it so waste stops catching on the crust.
Before lining
A joint under your floor is leaking.
Our liner covers the leaking joints along the lined run, inside your existing pipe.
Camera inspection
A connection has shifted out of line.
Our liner bridges an offset our camera can pass; a larger one needs its own repair first.
Camera inspectionSpot repair first
Part of your lateral has caved in.
We repair that section first, then line the rest of your lateral when it holds its shape.
Footage from our jobs
We recorded this walk from our vans to a Back Bay basement.
Our hose runs from the street through a basement window to the access point, which is why we plan your equipment route along with your opening.
We walk from our service vans past the inspection and lining equipment to the basement window where our hose enters the house on our Back Bay job.
We line your Back Bay sewer in five steps.

We record your lateral and its tie-ins.
Our camera maps the condition of your lateral and where its branches connect, so we know the length and cure approach before we open anything.
Hydro jetting
We jet the corrosion out of your cast iron.
Cleaning gives our camera a clear wall and gives your liner a surface to cure against.

We install your liner from one planned opening.
We invert the resin-saturated liner from the access point we agreed with you.
Curing the liner
We cure your liner and reinstate your connections.
The liner cures into a new pipe wall, then we reopen the branches it covered.
Epoxy coating
We coat the branches that need corrosion protection.
Where a smaller branch suits it, we brush coat its cleaned and dried inside wall with epoxy.

Back Bay and BWSC
Boston rules decide who works on your Back Bay building sewer.
Back Bay is served by the Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC). Its sewer regulations say your building sewer belongs to you, that installation, repair and maintenance must be done by a drain layer holding a BWSC Drain Layers License, and that work is not covered over until a Commission inspector approves it.
If your lateral is blocked, collapsed or leaking, BWSC’s Sewer Lateral Financial Assistance Program can reimburse part of the repair, and its program page lists relining as one way to correct the condition. BWSC verifies your lateral and confirms eligibility before you begin.

We answer questions Back Bay owners ask about their sewers.

Can lining help with recurring backups in my Back Bay building?
When your backups come from a deteriorated pipe wall or connections, as they did on our Back Bay job, a liner renews that wall along the lined run. Our recording shows whether that is the cause in your lateral.
Do you open my finished floor?
We use a cleanout when it gives us the access we need. When we need an opening, we agree its location with you before work starts, as we did on our Back Bay job.
Who owns my Back Bay lateral?
BWSC’s regulations say your building sewer is owned by the owner of the premises it serves, and BWSC describes your lateral as running from inside your basement to its main in the street.
Can you coat my branches and line my main lateral?
Yes. On our Back Bay job we lined the lateral and brush coated the branches that needed corrosion protection, and your recording shows whether your sewer needs both.
